Legal basis
The legal basis for our work is the „Gesetz über die Studierendenwerke im Lande Nordrhein-Westfalen“ (Law on Student Services in the State of North Rhine-Westphalia).
We are a member of the Paritätischen Wohlfahrtsverband (Parity Welfare Association), and our legal form is that of an Institution under Public Law. The governing bodies of the Studierendenwerk Münster are the Board of Directors and the Managing Director. The responsible legal supervisory authority is the Ministerium für Kultur und Wissenschaft des Landes NRW (Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia).

Social contribution
In order to be able to offer our services, we need your financial support. Our services are financed partially by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, partially by our own income and partially by the social contributions of the students of Münster’s higher education institutions.
In a state-wide comparison, you as a student in Münster pay a below-average social contribution. However, stagnating or declining subsidies from the state on the one hand, as well as the development of costs for energy, food and the maintenance of our residential facilities on the other hand, are constantly presenting us with new challenges. For us as your service provider, it is self-evident to keep your share of our financing as small as possible with a sustainable business policy.
Here you will find our contribution schedule as PDF (in German).
